USB Hub possible solution
I had this same problem. If I plugged in more than the 2 arduino's and the camera in the eye, I would get the same message. My USB Hub came with a power supply, If I use that everything runs OK.
Maybe try that.

I use a IOGear USB hub on more than one Arduino and it works ok. It still sounds like a power issue. Does the hub work with 1 Arduino? I assume you are powering the Arduinos from the USB hub, can you power them with the barrel jack on a wall wart?
