Thanks to our official Italian Ambassador Alessandruino - we will be at the Maker-Faire this October !!!
WooHoo !! He will have his own booth !   "One Software To Rule Them All"

Now lets plan and make the MRL Borg Booth SUPER WORKY !

Lets get some ideas to make some kick-ass demostrations, events and experiments !

Not sure if Gael, or Triharp will be there or what InMoov pieces Alessandruino will have..  Time to get working !

Aight to know what things we can do, you've got to know what parts you have.
Alessandruino currently has the following parts:

  • 1 almost ready Prusa I2 (Yay!)
  • 1 arduino uno
  • 1 ether shield
  • 1 relay shield
  • 2 shit servos
  • 2 good servos
  • 1 1293d H bridge for driving motors (chip only)
  • SmartPhone
  • Internet connection
  • 1 kW of power

NOW WHAT SHOULD WE DO !?!?!?

Fantastic, Alessandruino is accepted!

Bionico is also going to be part of the trip.

I am as well so at least there should be some pieces of my robot, or even maybe the whole robot if I can pack him easily in my suitcase!

I really hope they got my request about putting us next to each other.

Congratulation ! , i want photos and videos !

Grog and Gael, you have around 2 month to learn italian lol

As I mentioned to Gael, I don't actually exist in physical form... So of course I'll be there "virtually" ;)

Ya, videos & photos - Alessandruino and I are looking into the possibilities of remote control with the new webgui too .. WOOHOO !

You should pack the arms/torso/head of InMoov in a backpack so Grog can inhabit it remotely and Al can carry him around like Chewbacca carrying around C3PO.  :)  Either that or push him around in a wheelchair with some big batteries on board.

Great Idea...

First thought was, how to control a hand - the idea of moving sliders on a web page seem kind of futile...
We could bundle movements in simple controls - like "close hand" .. "open hand" but these are rather gross - and loose detail and fine control.

So...  virtual glove came to mind...
To the Web ! - of course this needs to be hacked together...

I saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG_ZjmWr_Bc  Ahahahah !  Brilliant ! - They are doing simple wires painted partially black and have a camera looking at the wires - then they have a camera pointed at the wires with LK Tracking !  I have all the pieces for this !!

Hmmm...  we will have to try !

Possiblities :

1) ROBOTIC ARM PLAYING CHESS

2) TRACKING HEAD

3)HAND WITH POWER GLOVE (VIRTUAL OR REAL)

4)REMOTE HAND CONTROL (WEBGUI) : CLOSE HAND , OPEN HAND, OK, VICTORY

5)REMOTE/TALKING COFFEE MAKER

6)12 VOLT LAMP ->relay shield

7) REMOTE TALKING USING WEBGUI (PRE-ASSIGNED WORDS OR TEXT AREA)

8) REMOTE CONTROLLING A PAN/TILT WEBCAM (VIDEO STREAM + SERVOS CONTROL)

It's time to make a shopping list of electronics to buy that i don't have yet :

1) BLUETOOTH MODULE FOR ARDUINO (HOW MANY?)

2)ARDUINO PRO-MICRO ?

3)RASPI OR BEAGLE BONE BLACK?

4)OTHER SERVOS?

Any suggestions?

From a demonstration perspective :

A little simple robot(s) might be good ...
One of the benefits of MRL is that through communication you can make dumb hardware into much smarter hardware.  For example :

a dumb Arduino + bluetooth + continuous servos (wheels) + IR distance sensor = a tiny robot which can potentially provide SLAM and a graphical display - by sending all its data to MRL running on a computer, it allows remote control too - from gamepads (you have one of these right?) - phones & the web ...

As for a RasPi I know you've wanted one for a while ... sure to show the diversity which MRL  runs on would be great !!!

Using Twitter Service:

What about a robot that picks the object by the color people posted on twitter?

Object tracking:

Robot Soccer? one ball and 2 simple bots trying to score a goal.

Robot Sumô? 2 bots pushing each other to take out of an area?

Good ideas about MRL and the control of several very small, inexpensive bots (SWARM).

Little tiny robots with TopCodes on their heads could be controlled via MRL through bluetooth communication and an overhead camera.

There could be interactive games, coordinated autonomous actions (like dancing, or working together), pushing blocks,  building houses, moving candy ;), sumo, or playing soccor !  Flavio mentioned control through twitter, web, or phone..

The general idea I think is a very powerful one - I wrote a long boring article here :
http://myrobotlab.org/content/myrobotlab-making-dumb-robots-smarter-inexpensively

Imagine a bunch of little tiny robots on a table-top all controlled through MRL camera :D

The Swarm bot would need :

  • tiny inexpensive arduino
  • tiny inexpensive bluetooth module
  • 2 x tiny continuous servos
  • 1 small rechargable battery pack
  • sensor(s) ?
  • topcode sticker
  • grabber? or shovel / bumper .. etc..
